Basics doing Intubations and IV''s?
Talks of letting B's do Combitube intubations and IV's, What are your thoughts?
No Problem
I don't think that it should be a problem at all. In MN the EMT-B has been able to do IV and Combi-Tube (as well as: Nitro, ASA, Epi-Pen & Jr, Glucagon, and Albuterol Nebs) for quite some time...the 8 years I've worked in the field anyway. I have found that the medics appreciate it when a Basic is able to complete these tasks for them. Also allows the Medics to be freed up for other stuff and the patient can go to the hospital with a Basic Ambulance.

I agree, I was actually surprised when I did my initial reciprocity cert in AZ that it was not a BLS skill here. Its been a basic skill in WI for some time as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that not all places have the luxury of having medics available 24/7,hence E's getting a broader skillset.
